Growing up in the shadow of Saddle Mountain, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Columbia River, truly shaped my crunchy little heart. A feral child raised by dogs and fisher people.
Maybe it was the antics of my three gentle and mischievous goats, Copenhagen, Dummy and Burp. Maybe it was the family of bears who foiled my dad’s every attempt to dissuade them from feasting on our apple crop. (Turns out bears crave loud Patsy Kline and picking fruit after midnight.) Maybe it was the long treks deep into the ancient douglas fir and hemlock forest with my canine companions.
Whatever the reasons, The Otter Bureau and our pocket sketch notebooks are born out of that experience.
It began as a kid’s curiosity for the lyrical natural world and became an adult adoration for slightly twisted whimsy using crayons and cameras. The covers of our blank notebooks sport small stories and moments in time. It’s that simple.
